I was inspired to apply the knowledge I gained as a neuroscientist to creating Reclaim following countless conversations with friends about curbing our unintended, excessive phone use.
While doing research on the need for such an app, all but one person shared the same frustration: they wanted to reduce their screen time, but existing tools felt too rigid, guilt-driven, or disconnected from how change actually happens.
Drawing on my research in neuroscience and psychology, I began exploring a different approach, one that focuses on understanding the emotional and contextual reasons behind phone use, rather than relying on willpower alone.
Today, we apply these insights to build a science-informed app that supports gradual and sustainable change through positivity. Reclaim is intentionally simple and distraction-free, designed to respect the limits of human attention.
Instead of hard blocks, we rely on gentle friction, positive reinforcement, and reminders of your intentions. Our approach is grounded in empathy and kindness toward yourself, because we believe lasting change happens through understanding oneself, not force.
